Online Clickers Workshop in April

I’m going to interrupt my two-part series on teaching statistics with clickers to let you know about an online workshop I’ll be leading in April.  “Using Clickers in the Classroom” will be hosted by the TLT Group on Thursdays, April 16, 23, and 30, from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern.

• The first session will focus on common types of clicker questions, core pedagogies, and frequently asked questions.
• The second session will feature a discussion of less common types of clicker questions, more advanced pedagogies, and alternate technologies such as laptops and smart phones.  Peggy Brickman of the University of Georgia will join us in the second session to talk about her use of “interrupted case studies” in large undergraduate biology courses.  Berlin Fang of Oklahoma Christian University will also be on hand to discuss issues of distraction and disruption in the classroom, drawing on his experiences with OCU’s iPhone initiative.
• The third session will focus on issues of faculty development and research about clickers, with Jeffrey Stowell of Eastern Illinois University as a guest sharing some of his research comparing clickers with other response mechanisms.
